So one of the wonderful things Koby does to take care of me (despite his unromantic ways as talked about in the previous post) is that he helps watch the kids and take care of them while I take skiing lessons! I took Tuesday classes for 4 weeks in January as part of the Ladies Day Clinic up at Sundance. Oh my goodness, it was one of the funnest things I've done! Class was from 10am-12:30pm and included a lift pass to ski the rest of the day. I was able to do it with the help from playgroup that was also on Tuesday mornings and with the help from my mom as well. I dropped Brigg and Kallie off at playgroup 45 minutes early at 9am (used the babysitting ticket system and my friends were so nice to help out), took Maren over to my mom's house, and left for my lesson which started at 10. My fun sister-in-law Kira took lessons as well but for snowboarding. My mom watched Kira's 2 girls and Maren. The playgroup leader for that day would then watch Brigg and Kallie an extra 45 minutes and feed them lunch. At 12:30, Brigg would go off to school and Kallie would stay and play with the friend at that home. Koby would pick up Maren at this time as well, bring her home, feed her lunch and put her to bed. One time he picked up Kallie and watched her as well. Kira and I would usually come home at about 3pm, pick up kids and head home. It worked out quite brilliantly actually. I had to trade my turn of playgroup with someone and I used up all my babysitting tickets, but it was well worth it!
I ended up in a group with just one other lady (Karen Lee) so it was almost a private lesson. My instructor was Michael and he was so fun, patient and really good at pushing us. Kira had private snowboarding lessons so she scored big time! I can now parallel ski and I got to go to the back mountain of Sundance for the first time! I could have kept going in February with another 4 lessons but I figured I was pushing my good luck. My instructor said I would be doing black diamonds if I kept it up so it was VERY tempting. Next year!
Koby was very amazed at the progress I made and we are both big believers of ski lessons now. I needed someone who wasn't related to me to teach me, who really knew what he was doing and could teach it in a way where I learned quickly.
The craziest thing about the whole experience was when we rear ended someone during a snow storm going up the canyon. :) Thank goodness Kira's car and the car in front of us wasn't damaged much.
The skiing gear makes me look pretty goofy. It has been fun doing the skiing thing this winter. I didn't think I would get so into it. I have been at least 9 times up skiing and we plan on more. It is so fun to share an active sport with Koby- something we both love doing. Koby is so addicted too. :) I hope to get at a level where I can go wherever he goes. He boards on everything and I don't have the guts for that kind of stuff yet. We mostly go together with Devin, Kira and sometimes my dad.
I have gone:
1 day skiing Brighton
1 night skiing Brighton
7 times day skiing Sundance
Koby has also gone one extra night at Brighton and once at Snowbird.
We hope to get our kids into skiing as they grow up and eventually fork out the money for a family season pass. It is hopefully the start of a new family activity! Besides, it gets me through the winter. :)
I skied once. Chris taught me, and I was still nursing Caden. It wasn't that fun for me. Too cold! Good for you though!
