So that isn't a good title since I rarely have thoughts, and when I do, they aren't very intelligent. Especially lately (therefore the lack of many posts recently) but I finally got more than 2 hours straight of sleep last night. In fact, I got a whole whopping 4 hrs of uninterrupted sleep last night! So yes, Pumpkin and her parental units have been at odds with each other every night for the past forever (like 3 or more weeks- I can't remember) and not getting much sleep. Hence emerges grumpy mommy- one not wanting to blog much. We are surviving. I think I am really being taught a lesson- Kanoba was a GREAT sleeper from 9 wks on. He spoiled me. I always thought- just do this and this and they will be great sleepers! Ha ha. I feel more sympathy for the moms who have kids that don't sleep well. Granted, I haven't been as good with doing the things they tell you to do in the baby sleep books, but I have tried everything at this point- Tylenol for possible teething, feeding for possible growth spurt, feeding solids right before sleep, crying it out, rocking, singing, cushy blankets to sleep on, things to help her feel cradled in bed, white noise.... She just wanted to eat and sleep. I am hoping we can come to a compromise somehow. Last night she finally went to bed on her own after a short crying spell and she got a good stretch of sleep in. Here's hoping it will last!
I just finished reading The Kite Runner and The Vaccine Book (as seen on the list in my sidebar) and I really loved them! I plan on purchasing The Vaccine Book (by Dr. Robert Sears) and if you want to learn more about vaccines and the diseases associated with them, you should definitely read it. It is one of the few books I have found that takes more of a middle road approach to vaccines. I don't agree with everything he says but I found the information he presented very good and up-to-date. I found a lot of information I didn't know before. He discusses each vaccine, the disease associated with it, effects, pros and cons of getting the disease, risk of the vaccine and diseases, the vaccine ingredients (wow- there were a few things I didn't know were there), a different vaccine schedule to help spread out the vaccines and the amount of aluminum the child is exposed to, and other fascinating data and topics.
I also loved The Kite Runner although the movie didn't do the book justice at all. It is about the friendship between two Afgani boys and their lives after something horrible tears them apart. It was well written, you get attached to the characters, and it has a great theme of forgiveness and friendship and courage. Beware, there are some very hard situations to read about and there is some language. It is PG-13 or higher rating as a book because of a horrible act that occurs.
On to some fun news- potty training begins again next week! Aren't you so jealous?
I can feel your pain!! I have had grumpy mommy syndrome latly also from lack of sleep, but i don't have a cute little baby yet to blame it on, just a big tummy! : )

Sorry for your sleeplessness! I have had a difficult sleeper too...it is so disparaging, especially after you've had a good sleeper.
ReplyDeleteI second your opinions of the Vaccine Book. I liked it. Thanks for sharing it.
I've read The Kite Runner, but haven't seen the movie yet. It is a heart wrenching book indeed.
There's a reason I'm sticking with one... he was a (very) good sleeper. Cry, Feed, Change, back to sleep... it wasn't until he was 5 or 6 that he started whining for no reason...
ReplyDeleteI have the Kite Runner kicking around but haven't read it yet... I went from reading two books a week to maybe 1 every couple of months. Got a Kindle to help remedy this. (Unfortunately Kite Runner is old-fashioned paper so it's still just around.)
So... I Kindled a sample of The Vaccine Book so I could get an idea what it was like (first chapter or so.) Google 'vaccines' (actually the results are much better than last time I tried...) and you get a bunch of hooey such as the National Vaccine (mis)Information Center. I assumed (indeed Dr. Sears mentioned that he expected people to assume) that this would be an anti-vac book like nearly everything else out there like it.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is not an attempt by a raving lunatic to banish vaccines from existence. Rather it appears to be a sincere attempt to educate. Imagine that. After arguing with my mother about the supposed autism link (and her refusal to vaccinate Millie) I'm a bit sensitive. Outbreaks of things like whooping cough (and Polio which still breaks out in Africa) happen because people don't vaccinate. The only thing I'm not sure about is the mandatory vaccination thing.
I DO NOT believe that mother knows best (too many people are too ready to listen to crackpots.) Personal freedom can only go as far as not being harmful to others, I don't want my child exposed to diseases because someone else thinks they know better than the experts.
Besides HPV vaccine prevents CANCER... how cool is that?

Sorry for co-opting your blog...
