Yesterday was mine and Koby's 10 year High School Reunion. It was a really fun time! There wasn't a huge turnout considering there were close to 600(?) students in my class, but oh well eh! I'm sure we got a good amount of people who still live in the area though. Anyhow, it was a little crazy seeing some of the people I went to school with 10 years ago- some had changed a little and some hardly at all. I have to laugh because Koby didn't want to go since he said he keeps in contact with those people that he wants to keep in contact with anyway. I hardly even saw him though at both the family picnic in the early afternoon and later at the adults only dinner. He was all around the room talking to everyone. He talked to a ton more people than I did and knew more people than I did (or maybe I just didn't recognize them :) Anyhow, even when we were leaving he said he could stay and talk more but most of the people had already left. We were also one of the last people to leave the picnic. I'm glad I "dragged" him to the reunion. I don't think it was that painful of an experience for him. I got to see all my close friends from high school and it was fun to catch up a little with them when I wasn't chasing Kallie out of the street (thanks to Shalon for the many times she pointed out that Kallie was in the road!), or trying to calm down when I saw Kallie climbing the swing chain ladder over and over to the slide, or telling her to quit licking the pavilion pole.
Some of the girlfriends: Sara (and Kjerstin), Shalon (and Mollie), Emily (and baby due Aug.), Mindy (and baby due Jan. 7), and me (and baby girl)
I wish I had gotten more pictures but didn't think of it until someone else pulled out the camera!
I have also pulled out baby clothes and put them in the drawer and put up a crib that I got at a garage sale (for $40 hardly used with hardly used crib set and mattress!). Every time Kallie sees the bed she says "Baby!". It is a favorite place to play right now.
I had my first visit with the midwives last week. I'm SO glad I switched over. I had wanted to be with the midwives when I was pregnant with Kallie but since there were so many little factors with my pregnancy, I just stayed with the doctors. This time, however, I don't have as many little "issues" so I feel good being with the midwives. I had a list of things I wanted to ask the midwife but she answered most of my questions without me even asking them. Here were a few of them:
* I do NOT have to have internal monitoring. It is strongly recommended by the hospital but it is not a requirement. Wahoo! The midwife said I would need to have external monitoring and probably a hep-lock but I could walk around, get in the tub, etc. Huge relief.
* She does all the checking at the hospital (unless she is with another patient and I need to be checked because I'm complete).
* She will not break my water until I want to- close to pushing usually.
* She will help with counter pressure and other comfort measures.
* They have a VERY high rate of successful VBACs. In the high 90th percentile.
* 30% of their patients deliver without pain meds. Fairly high when you compare to doctor's patients. However, I'm sure the people who want to deliver naturally seek out the midwives.
*The put the baby skin to skin contact as soon as she is born.
*They don't routinely do episiotomies.
Anyhow, I am very excited. I feel really good about my decision to switch to the nurse midwives.
I also ordered and received my Hypnobabies home study material. Yikes! It will be very interesting, I can already tell. I can't listen to 2 of the 6 cds until I'm 38 wks along since it could mess up that part of the "hypnosis anesthesia". I have heard a lot of positive things about hypnobabies and it is supposedly very successful (more so than hypnobirthing and other methods). So we shall see! I called a hypnobabies instructor to ask her if I could attend the 6th class where you practice what you have learned. She said I could come for free! They usually charge 40-50 dollars.
Time is flying fast! Brigg had his first week of swim lessons and he really enjoys it. Despite it raining every day this entire week, not one class was canceled. It has been a very busy week with dr. appointment, swim classes, summer preschool (for Brigg), picnic in the park playgroup, another little neighborhood summer preschool group (for Brigg), another little playgroup, class reunion, a new haircut, a nephew's birthday party, and a monthly finance/ budgeting class I'm taking. Whew! I like being busy (the fun kind) because it makes time go by faster and it makes life more fun! I also get nice breaks when Brigg is at all his activities where I can just relax at home. I've got a few good books to read. FYI, two really good books I just read: Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
Take the poll at the sidebar for names you like for the next baby! Please, let me know any honest opinions- likes or dislikes, teasing the little girl may get because of the name, etc. I hate picking names- so much pressure for a good name for your child who has no say!
FYI I tried to pick two names on the poll, but it would only let me choose one. :( I hate picking names too. With Jared, I was in labor, sitting at my computer (hadn't gone to the hospital yet), looking through names. We really have a hard time. :) Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of Vergie. But I loooooove Sydney and Cassie. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm SO GLAD that you switched and that you had a good appt!! Woohoo!! Things are working out!!!! :) :) :)
Last night I was talking to my mom about my great great aunt (who I knew, but passed away when I was about 9). I always thought her name was Opal. However my mom told me that her name was Vergie, but she was so embarrassed by it that she always used her middle name. Until I saw the name on your site, I had never heard of it, so it is funny that the same day my mom told my that my great great aunt had the same name. Anyway, I just thought you might like to know her view on the name.
