I am due in 2 weeks, 6 days- November 28th. Today I went to see my doctor, Dr. William Parker, who I think is wonderful. He delivered Kanoba as well as a nephew and some cousins (who are 23 years old). He has been around for awhile and knows his stuff. I believe he has delivered over 6,000 babies.
To get on with this story, I went to see my doctor today for my weekly check up. He scheduled me for a c-section for the 26th. Thanks to my heart-shaped, bicornuate uterus that has a septum running down the top 30%, my chances for breech babies is around 50%. (as well as increased chances of miscarriages, infertility (It takes me on avg. 8 mo. to get pregnant- which isn't bad. Many people are completely infertile.) and pre-term birth). Kanoba was breech, and baby girl A. has been breech the entire pregnancy, or so I think. At all 4 ultrasounds she was breech. She was breech my last OB visit so we scheduled the c-section. I was not too thrilled by the date. I was worried that I would go into labor before that date and end up with the Dr. Allen who I don't know, or deliver on Thanksgiving or something. I was given the option to deliver the day before Thanksgiving which did not make me jump for joy. Dr. Parker is also going on vacation Nov. 24- Dec. 1. The whole deciding on a date was really annoying me. Dr. Parker was so wonderful and told me today that he would forgo his holiday and do a c-section the day after Thanksgiving! If I could pick any day, that would be the perfect day I would pick. I was ecstatic. Well he had to then go and check the baby's position, decide that it was suspicious, do an internal exam (which I have avoided because of the c-section), pull out the ultrasound, and pronounce her head down. (!!!) I told him I didn't believe him. I have had 3 doctors, including him, think that this baby or Kanoba was head down, but it was their hard, bony bums. I had an ultrasound just 2 weeks ago and she was breech. I am 37 weeks and babies usually don't turn at this point. My uterus is very weird. It is oddly shaped, not much room for a baby to turn, and "small". I was sure I was going to have a c-section. She has decided to play games already and trick us all. She is already independent and determined to do her own thing. She probably wants to pick her own birthday too. As soon as I get the answer to my prayers in having the doctor I want do the c-section the day I want, she pulls a trick like this. Who knows, she will probably do a somersault at the very end and I have a c-section anyway. With Kanoba I had taken hypnobirthing classes, I was mentally geared up for delivering him with my feet up in stirrups, and I had been taking my magic pills to help my body to prepare for labor. I haven't done any of these things and I am thinking epidural epidural. Did I mention that I am not dilated AT ALL? Her head wasn't down there to help the million braxton hicks I have been experiencing since week 14 to do anything. So if you see a herbal pill popping pregnant woman madly walking around the streets, hoping to start dilating, just keep on driving. I too can have a mind of my own.
Sorry if you are now snoozing, but now you have a real post and it was nice to get that off my mind.
You look GREAT! And any way you want to deliver is great. Don't feel the pressure. Do it how you want it. :)
ReplyDeleteI was Dr. Parker's 6,224th delivery. :) And that was over a year ago!
After I heard this news yesterday, I couldn't help thinking that this baby girl has a mind of her own and/or is stubborn. And then I started thinking...hmmm..sounds like she already (in utero, even) resembles her dad. :)
ReplyDeleteLiz- I will have to ask what number delivery this is for Dr. Parker if I get him. I think that is awesome he delivered Connor.
ReplyDeleteRynell- Yes, definitely. I thought the same thing. Brigg is very stubborn too. I think I am doomed. :)
Hey Alicia. Love the blog. The other day I was at the office and Koby was talking to John and I asked him if you guys had a blog. He looked all blank, so I thought the answer was "no", but it turns out he was jut trying to remember the long URL address. :) Ours is www.dreamshard.com. Can I add you to my blog roll?
ReplyDelete~ Shannon
Loved the post, was enthralled through the whole thing. Good luck! What an exciting time, I can't wait to hear additional news, for your sake I hope sooner than later:)
ReplyDeleteWow, good luck with everything. Isn't it funny (and sometimes annoying) what babies will try to do even before they actually get here? :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, completely off the topic, but was that picture taken at your house? I love the wall color, the couch, and the crown molding!! Sorry, I'm a dork.
Shannon- I'm so glad you found my blog. I am surprised Koby even remembered the URL address. :)
ReplyDeleteMarjorie- Yes, I hope it is soon, but not on a few specific days. (cousin's wedding, Thanksgiving..) But we will take her when she comes.
Katie- To answer your question, that picture was taken in our house but i can't take credit in the colors. The previous owner painted and did the molding. The color is pumpkin and the molding is actually two pieces with the middle painted white. :) Pretty tricky. The couches we just bought after having a completely empty front room for 2 years. :) It is nice to not have people at the door asking if we just moved in.
Alicia,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad things still look good. It sounds like you have to be ready for either scenario. Just think, in a couple of weeks she'll be here one way or another.
Good luck!
