We ate breakfast and I let them look at the stockings and one present before church. I felt like a scrooge but there was nothing we could do with 9am church. It is a struggle to be there on time as it is. The kids were SO wild all morning though and church was a struggle. We survived and were FINALLY able to open presents when we got home. Brigg immediately changed into his jammies and the fun commenced. Unfortunately I only got a few pictures.
Maren got a barbie car from santa.
Kallie asked santa for an art easel.
Brigg asked for an nintendo DS or a pet. Santa caved and got a beta fish.
First Andersen pet ever!!

First Andersen pet ever!!
Brigg named him Sammy. Brigg was SO happy. He kept checking on him and making sure he was ok, he talked to him and immediately asked him how he was after school. It was a wonderful week long life for Sammy... who promptly got sick and died.
Brigg cried and cried after Sammy died. It was pretty heartbreaking. He kept saying he missed Speedy and that no other fish would be good enough.
Being the unexperienced pet owners, we didn't realize Sammy was sick until it was too late. Probably didn't help that Santa picked him up from Walmart.
We were smarter and went to Pet Smart to find a replacement. Brigg was thinking about getting several goldfish but we were nicely educated on the big habitats needed for goldfish (they don't do well in the little goldfish bowls that I always picture) so Brigg became the proud owner of a new betta named Speedy. It was a little burned from his last fish relationship so it took a day to get over Sammy and fully love Speedy. We also had fish medication nearby so that we could immediately intervene should Speedy get sick. So far so good... he is still alive today!
I didn't realize fish could have so much personality. I read that bettas can recognize your face and that they can jump up to 3 in in the air! They also gulp air as well as use gills to breath. We also realized Sammy was probably cold and that didn't help his infection. Speedy had a water heater from the start. He is pampered and well fed.
