I saw this fire shortly after it started as I was driving to Costco in Lehi. It had just started but by the time I came out of Costco, it looked like the mountain had blown up. It was captivating and spectacular. I just stood and watched it while standing in the parking lot. A lot of other people couldn't believe it too. I took this picture a day or so after it started and it is amazing, but didn't have the massive mushroom cloud like the first day I saw it.
The fire burned all across the mountain and barely missed burning homes. The firefighters worked hard and miraculously save this home below.
I couldn't take my eyes off of the fire. It is so amazing what nature
can do. I'm glad no one was hurt and that all the homes were saved. It
wasn't the case in Colorado Springs around this same time when hundreds
of homes were razed to the ground. There had also been a big fire in
Saratoga Springs just a week or so before the Quail fire and it was very
worrisome as well. There were several big, uncontrollable fires in Utah
at the time and I felt like Utah was burning up. There was constant
smoke in the sky and it was a crazy time. They banned fireworks near
the hills in Lindon and I was praying that people obeyed the restriction
because all it would take would be a little spark to make the mountain
light up. We live just a few houses away from the wild mountain brush. I
was hoping I wouldn't have to be like those in Alpine, Saratoga Springs
and Mountain Home that had to be evacuated. Thanks goodness everyone in
our neighborhood was good and I didn't see any fireworks going off in
the restricted area. It was a fairly quiet Fourth of July, almost eerily
so.
