So my new hobby is getting my house/ life in order right now. This includes preparing for disasters/ failing economy by getting a complete 1 year food/ basic needs storage. I have been canning and buying up food to freeze (chicken on sale at Macey's- 40lbs. for 1.19 a pound), etc. I'm trying to get our finances in order and get a nice rainy day fund set aside. I'm trying to get my spiritual life in order by being more diligent in my daily prayers and scripture reading and this and that. There is a whole lot of things I am trying to be better at, it is very hard, but I feel that it is so necessary right now with all the crazy things going on in the world. Do I feel that the world is coming to an end? No. Do I feel that there is doom and despair in the near future. Not necessarily. I am not even worried about the economy. But I feel like I need to be prepared for whatever could come. Or else I will have a panic attack. I am an overprepared crazy- I was the girl at girl's camp who had 4 suitcases with everything I could need. Ok, I wasn't that bad but 50% of the stuff I took I didn't even use. I need to feel prepared, even if I'm not.
My point is, I found a really awesome website that is fulfilling some of my recent obsessions with prepardeness. It was recommended by my church ward's amazing provident living leader. She is AMAZING. For those of you who have like minds as me in this matter, check it out. There are some great recipes as well. Like, did you know you can can butter?? What about yogurt made out of (nasty) powdered milk? You have to do something with it.
I have a ton to work on and I am in no means "prepared", but I am slowly getting there.
“We have built grain storage and storehouses and stocked them with the necessities of life in the event of a disaster. But the real storehouse is the family storeroom. In words of revelation the Lord has said, ‘Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing’ (D&C 109:8.)”
President Gordon B. Hinckley
"Be prepared in all things against the day when tribulations and desolations are sent forth upon the wicked." D&C 29:8
That is a REALLY cool site! Thanks for linking that!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm with you... only I do think the world is ending. :) I'm trying not to be such a glass-half-empty person, but man, it's tough.
Wow, canned butter...perhaps you can give me some pointers when we come to visit!
ReplyDeleteHey get with me to plan...I am a talk it over to figure it out kind of person so if you want we could work on it together...just a thought. I have been starting slowly to get food storage but have a hard time getting organzied to know what to buy. Anyway.
